Johnny Depp: Leaving France to Avoid Taxes?

Ready to head out for the day, Johnny Depp was spotted leaving the Plaza Athenee Hotel in Paris, France this afternoon (November 7)

Greeting his fans with a friendly wave, the "Pirates of a Caribbean" hunk dressed in his usual dark-rimmed eyewear, along with a gray blazer, striped vest and blue jeans.

In related news, Johnny - who had held a residence in France with long-time partner and native Vanessa Paradis since the 1990s - officially made his full-time move to the States as a way to avoid paying taxes to the French.

Depp explained, ?Well, I kind of do (live back in America). I?m between wherever I end up on location, and then the States. (I left because) France wanted a piece of me. They wanted me to become a permanent resident. Permanent residency status ? which changes everything. They just want? Dough. Money? I?m certainly not ready to give up my American citizenship.?

He later added that, if he and his family do spend more than 183 days out of a year there, he'll be forced to fork over tax money to both Europe and America, noting that he would "essentially be working for free."
